Salary Range

$74,000.00 depending on qualifications

Essential Functions

The position of Assistant Professor of Teacher Education and Chair of Teacher Preparation at The University of Texas Permian Basin is a full-time, tenure-track faculty role within the College of Education. It involves teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring students, and leading departmental initiatives. The Chair oversees curriculum development, faculty supervision, and accreditation efforts, while also managing field-based experiences and clinical placements for teacher preparation programs.

This role requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including regional school districts, and demands strong leadership, organizational, and pedagogical skills. A doctoral degree is required, with preference given to candidates with broad teaching capabilities and practical experience.

1. Tenure track, full-time teaching position on a 12-month contract
2. Faculty are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
3. Face-to-face and/or hybrid teaching interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus for a minimum of four days a week.
4. Teach 18 credit hours per contract year.
5. Achieve appropriate student-learning outcomes in all courses taught.
6. Faculty are expected to employ sound pedagogical practices and use appropriate technology.
7. Mentor students to prepare them for professional practice, graduate studies, and research.
8. Provide support to students in need of academic improvement.
9. Serve the university, college, and department.
10. Actively participate in the department's expansion.
11. Student course evaluations are to be completed in each course.
12. Abide by deadlines and processes for submitting grades.
13. Advise students and provide individual help to students during weekly office hours.
14. Pursue and achieve departmental excellence in teaching, research, and service.
15. Work collaboratively with the Dean to assure the Department has resources essential to fulfill its mission and provide regular reports to the Dean about emergent departmental needs.
16. Communicate regularly with departmental faculty and the Dean.
17. Enforce all applicable regulatory policies.
18. Provide leadership to the Departments academic programs, take leadership in developing curriculum, conduct annual departmental and program evaluations, and advise the Dean relative to the work of obtaining and maintaining program accreditations.
19. Supervise faculty work on a day-to-day basis, assure faculty perform all duties commensurate with their workload and assignments, assure faculty receive appropriate professional development (teacher residency, TEA, etc), and verify that all instruction and other departmental activities are conducted according to established protocols. Maintain an atmosphere of collegiality and shared governance.
20. Address questions, complaints, grievances, and suggestions from faculty, staff, and students. Mediate conflicts that arise among departmental colleagues and students.
21. Build and maintain a rotation for course offerings in the Department with a minimum of a two-year (six semester) future schedule of offerings in place.

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 - 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am - 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Faculty hours may differ based on class schedule and department need.

Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation.
