About The Role

The Senior Investigator of Ethics & Compliance Investigations (“Senior Investigator”) will conduct investigations into alleged violations of the Balfour Beatty Code of Ethics and/or other policies as required and will and support the continuous development and improvement of Balfour Beatty Communities’ (the “Company”) Ethics & Compliance investigations program. The position reports to the Director of Ethics & Compliance Investigations and will work with the Ethics & Compliance team, HR, Legal, Internal Audit, and outside counsel to implement and execute an effective investigations program, including the continued development of the Company’s investigations framework and reporting process.

Primary Duties

Conduct investigations fairly and consistently with the goal of providing objective and factual determinations regarding alleged misconduct. Support the overall function of the Ethics & Compliance team as directed.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Develop investigative strategy, including preparation of investigation plans based on reported allegation(s) and developed leads.
  • Review electronically stored information and other forensic evidence to include email, phone, business records, and other third-party reports.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts and other stakeholders when conducting investigations.
  • Conduct interviews of all participants in an investigation: reporting party (if known), direct and indirect witnesses, and subject(s) of the allegation(s).
  • When appropriate and authorized/delegated to do so, serve as investigative lead for complex E&C investigations, directing the work of less senior investigators and support staff.
  • Prepare reports of investigation (or executive summaries in lieu of reports) documenting findings, case details, and conducting root cause analysis to identify contributing factors for substantiated misconduct.
  • Conduct timely and thorough investigations, often managing multiple investigations at the same time. Achieved by organizing, prioritizing, and planning multiple concurrent tasks daily.
  • Provide periodic oral and written updates regarding case status to E&C management and other business leaders as required.
  • Assist the Director as necessary in designing and implementing improvements to the investigation process.

Who We're Looking For

  • BA/BS degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field or equivalent education and/or experience. CFE, CCEP, preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years investigative experience (law firm, in-house, law enforcement with familiarity investigating financial crimes, or forensic accounting firm).
  • Knowledge of and experience with investigating complex compliance matters, including fraud/financial crimes, corruption, and other ethics violations.
  • Demonstrated ethics and integrity, with clear understanding and adherence to ethical principles, company values, Code of Ethics, and policies. The E&C investigator must walk the talk in terms of integrity, courage and candor.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, collaboration, and relationship-building skills with an ability to work with multiple stakeholders with varying needs in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Develop working knowledge of the Balfour Beatty Code of Ethics and other company policies.
  • Promote and support investigative protocol, to include maintaining confidentiality and appropriate discretion of privileged and confidential company, employee, and third-party information.
  • Possess strong analytic and investigatory skills.
  • Knowledgeable of ethics and compliance best practices.
  • Ability to execute the strategy and plans of E&C leadership and be team focused.
  • Highly motivated, efficient, and detail-oriented; able to manage multiple projects and work successfully in a fast-paced environment, both collaborating as a team member and working independently.
