The Wilkes University Department of Chemistry seeks highly qualified applicants for an instructional faculty member position (a non-tenure track Faculty of Practice), pending available funding, to begin in Fall of 2026. The ideal candidate will have a background in chemistry with demonstrated expertise in undergraduate instruction. The successful candidate will be expected to teach organic chemistry and introductory chemistry courses, including the associated laboratory sections. Faculty of Practice carry a 24-credit teaching load per academic year. Appointments are made on a 9- month basis and are renewed annually. Faculty of Practice are afforded all privileges of other full-time faculty, including rights to vote and participate in faculty governance and the protection of academic freedom. In addition to teaching, faculty are expected to participate in service activities at the department, college, and university levels, and will also be responsible for advising and mentoring undergraduate students.
Minimum Qualifications
• Master's degree in chemistry or a closely related field
• Experience teaching undergraduate chemistry
• Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education and student success
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related discipline from an accredited institution
• Experience teaching organic chemistry lectures and labs
• Evidence of successful mentoring or advising of undergraduate students
• Familiarity with best practices in inclusive pedagogy and undergraduate curriculum design

• Expertise in Organic Chemistry: Strong grasp of chemical synthesis, spectroscopy, and lab instrumentation
• Instructional Proficiency: Skilled in delivering engaging lectures and labs, managing classrooms, and using educational technologies effectively
• Student-Centered Mentorship: Ability to advise and support students in academic planning, career exploration, and personal growth
• Collegiality and Collaboration: Works effectively in team settings with faculty, staff, and students
• Communication and Organization: Excellent verbal and written communication, with strong organizational skills for managing course materials
