Position Overview

As a Designer at Boxco Studio, you will work directly with clients to design their kitchens and cabinetry, guiding them through the customization process from initial estimate through final drawings. You'll collaborate with a diverse range of clients—from architects and interior designers to residential homeowners—helping them create beautiful, functional spaces that meet their needs. Working under the guidance of the Lead Designer, you'll be responsible for client relationships, project coordination, and developing efficient design processes. This position requires a genuine passion for design, strong technical skills, proactive problem-solving, and the ability to anticipate both client needs and project challenges before they arise.

Key Responsibilities

Kitchen and Cabinetry Design

  • Create initial kitchen layouts and designs during the estimate phase using Cabinet Vision, from scratch or based on elevations provided by the client
  • Develop comprehensive cabinetry designs after client sign-on, customizing layouts to meet specific needs
  • Select and specify cabinet configurations, finishes, and hardware with clients
  • Produce detailed drawing sets and renderings throughout the design process
  • Revise designs based on client feedback and evolving project requirements
  • Ensure all designs adhere to Boxco's standards and aesthetic while meeting client functional needs

Drawing Interpretation and Technical Skills

  • Read and interpret architectural drawings, ranging from construction bid sets to rough sketches
  • Ensure accurate client expectations and execution based on architectural documentation
  • Visualize finished cabinetry and spaces to foresee potential complications in fabrication, installation, and functionality
  • Make corrections prior to production to prevent issues downstream

Project Oversight

  • Act as primary point of contact for clients after sign-on, with guidance and support from Lead Designer and the Technical Production Manager.
  • Run design meetings either in person or on video calls, and help clients improve the functionality and beauty of their spaces. Offer appropriate and helpful design solutions in real time.
  • Track project documentation, timelines and deliverables, proactively flagging potential issues early
  • Build client confidence through clear communication, product knowledge, and consistent follow-through
  • Coordinate with engineering, and production teams to ensure smooth project progression

Software Management and Documentation

  • Stay current with company software (Cabinet Vision, Airtable, Google Business Suite)
  • Create and maintain process documentation and training materials for current and future team

Collaboration and Team Coordination

  • Work with Lead Designer to ensure all projects move forward smoothly and manage client expectations
  • Work with Technical Production Manager to ensure all projects that go into final drawings are ready for production
  • Coordinate with the entire studio team on overall project schedules
  • Support overall team effectiveness through clear communication and proactive coordination

Additional Responsibilities

  • Take on other tasks as assigned by management to ensure project success and client satisfaction
  • Contribute to team initiatives and company growth as needed

Qualifications

Technical Skills (preferred) we are willing to train the right candidate

  • Proficiency with Cabinet Vision software or other CAD/3D modeling software
  • Strong proficiency in Google Suite
  • Experience with Airtable or similar project management tools
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings accurately

Working Conditions

This position involves both office work and occasional site visits. The ability to focus, manage multiple priorities, and communicate effectively is critical.

Reporting Structure

Reports to: Lead Designer and President

Direct Reports: None

Works closely with: Director of Operations, Marketing and Sales Manager, shop team, production staff

Compensation, Hours, Performance Review

Compensation: $28.88–$30.45/hr, pay commensurate with experience

Work Schedule: 32 hours per week, Monday–Thursday 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM with a 30 minute lunch break (8 hours/day)
