Hospitalist Role
As a Hospitalist, you will be working with inpatients, medical staff members, residents, nursing staff and hospital leaders. The skills and experience you bring to the Hospitalist role are a valued asset to our organization.
Position Summary:
Hospitalists provide inpatient clinical care to patients who are referred to the Hospitalist service either from unassigned emergency department admissions, admissions from medical staff members or other sources. Patients are admitted and cared for on an ongoing basis. Discharges are done in a timely manner and within policy regulatory guidelines. Our Hospitalists serve as clinical team leaders for code blue, rapid responses and other emergent clinical scenarios, working to ensure optimal team performance and adherence to relevant guidelines. The scope of care includes adult internal medicine, critical care with back up provided by an on-call intensivist. Advanced Cardiac Life Support protocol, and on occasion, medical care for obstetrical patients.
Qualifications:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provides comprehensive clinical care to patients admitted to the Hospitalist service either from unassigned emergency department admissions, or from medical staff members.
2. Coordinates with both clinical and administrative resources to ensure high quality, effective patient care. Provides teaching and mentoring to clinical staff on a periodic and ongoing basis.
3. Assures that patients are admitted and cared for on an ongoing basis and discharged in a timely manner in accordance with policy and regulatory guidelines.
4. Effectively collaborates with clinical staff to provide efficient and effective use of resources, and ensures patient satisfaction.
5. Actively participate in activities to improve quality and patient satisfaction, including medical staff committees, performance improvement projects, peer review and use of guidelines and protocols.
6. Serves as a clinical team leader for code blue, rapid responses and other emergent clinical scenarios, working to ensure optimal team performance and adherence to relevant guidelines.
7. Communicates regularly and effectively with patients, families, staff, referring physicians, specialists, administration and hospital departments in the care and treatment of patients referred to the service. Assists in the education of new Medical Staff members in effective use of Hospitalist Service.
