POSITION TITLE: Sanitation Worker I 

JOB LOCATION:  

• City Maintenance Facility 
• City of Zephyrhills 

SALARY RANGE:  

• Starting Salary: $32,760.00/ $15.75 hr. 
• Pay Grade: Z-151.
• Non-Exempt / Mandatory Testing.

FAIR LABOR STANDARDS ACT STATUS: Applicable. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED. 
• Must have the ability to understand and follow oral/written instructions and work well with the public and co-workers. 
• Applicants must be able to lift heavy objects, work on scheduled holidays, and have the ability to use a map to locate addresses. 
• Must have knowledge of the safe operation and routine maintenance of equipment. 
• Possess and maintain a State of Florida Class B CDL license with air brake endorsement or obtain within six (6) months of hire. 

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: 

• Handles, carries, and empties receptacles containing solid waste. 
• Sanitation workers deposit waste into a collection vehicle and operate the compaction mechanism. 
• Workers report vehicle mechanical problems to the driver, drive sanitation trucks to the transfer station, and ride on the external platform between collection stops. 
• Performs maintenance work on the division premises, cleans sanitation vehicles, and identifies hazardous waste products. 
• Occasional weekend work, when required. 
• Completes other related duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: 

• The selected candidate will have a background check completed, undergo drug testing, and complete a physical exam before employment. 
• Tasks completed for this position involve regular and sustained physical exertion. 
• Possession of a current valid Florida driver's license is also required before employment. 

The compensation package will start at the base salary range. The City of Zephyrhills has an excellent benefits package, which includes medical, dental, life insurance, and Florida Retirement System (FRS).
