Job Description

Job Summary:Healthcare security officers are expected to respond to alarms, emergency requests, and use verbal de-escalation skills to resolve safety incidents. They are also expected to maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling private information, along with presenting strong customer service. At times, healthcare security guards will be required to effectively manage agitated or aggressive patients or visitors.

Primary Job Responsibilities: 

  1. Assists in maintaining a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients, families, and significant others.
  2. Monitors psychosocial condition of patients. Reports and documents change to appropriate personnel.
  3. Communicates and treats patients according to their individual age, education level, and ability to understand instructions and descriptions of their treatment.
  4. Utilizes effective communication strategies.
  5. Utilizes the proper chain of command for resolution of difficult issues.
  6. Performs daily security rounds.
  7. Must obtain de-escalation training (provided by Memorial Hospital) within 30 days of hire.
  8. Responds to all violence related pages.
  9. Works closely with local law enforcement when needed.
  10. Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  11. Uses and maintains equipment properly.
  12. Assists visitors with directions whenever requested.
  13. Always introduces self to patients, families, and visitors.
  14. Reports safety hazards as appropriate.
  15. Maintains set quality standards when performing job duties..
  16. Ability to do work on his/her own with no supervision.
  17. Always observe safety precautions.
  18. Cooperate with other personnel to achieve departmental objectives, maintain good employee relations and interdepartmental objectives.
  19. Performs other duties as assigned. Minor maintenance work, (painting, sanding, work orders, furniture assembly, preventive maintenance check lists.) Minor housekeeping work/ cleaning.
  20. Ensures the hospital’s Service Excellence initiatives are carried out within the department.
  21. Responding efficiently and effectively to fire drills, external and internal disasters and/or drills, trauma alerts, emergency response codes, etc.
  22. Managing verbally or physically aggressive situations without injury to patients and staff, using verbal interventions/de-escalation skills, remaining calm, exercising judgment, and avoiding unnecessary physical force and abusive language.
  23. Assisting clinical staff in the application of clinical restraints, including physical holds when necessary.
  24. Maintains set quality standards when performing job duties.
  25. Observes safety precautions at all times.
  26. Ability to read and understand equipment operation manual.
  27. Maintains documentation on continuing education and training of staff as procedures for new equipment and process changes occur.
  28. Ensures the hospital’s Service Excellence initiatives are carried out within the department.

Required Qualifications: 

  1. High School Graduate or equivalent.    
  2. Ability to motivate, educate, and supervise personnel. 
  3. Demonstrates the willingness to cooperate with other departments.

Preferred Qualification: 

  1. Security, or law enforcement experience preferred
